What video game comes without an adapter to plug it into an outlet?!? And then what product manual fails to indicate what size 9 volt adapter is required?!? This one. I guess the company really wants you to buy their adapter, rather than head to Radio Shak like we tried to do.
Otherwise, we are happy with the system (and would give it 5 stars). More importantly, our son is enjoying his Christmas present and building his gaming skills.

Very educational – 3 year old daughter loved it. Unfortunately, it did not last. We purchased this in November 2005 & by September 2006 it no longer works. We’re unable to return it (obviously) and the manufacturer provided no useful return policy. Oh well, fun while it lasted!

I bought this Learning System for my daughter (now turning 4) last Christmas. Set-up is simple, and the joystick was easy for her to maneuver. She was so happy, and had fun trying new games with all her favorite characters. It quickly became THE FAVORITE.
I was pleased with the system until one day it wouldn’t turn off. I unplugged it and started it again, half of the screen was blank and the other half was pixelated. Again, it wouldn’t turn off. I tried some of my “old school Nintendo tricks” (blowing the cartridge, unconnecting and reconnecting the entire system), but the thing never ever worked again.
IT DIED AFTER 11 MONTHS
But, I really believe that this is a really wonderful toy when it is functioning properly. It was my baby girl’s favorite toy in the world!!! I’ve sadly watched over her sitting with that joystick in her lap and the cord dangling like a lifeless friend. Well, I couldn’t take it, so I’ve ordered the new model (with stylus and mic). Please, Vtech, don’t let us down again.

My mother bought my three sons a v-smile console for Christmas last year and as Grandmas do, went overboard buying every single game she could find. She also purchased extra controllers, charger, adapter, you name it. This toy began powering itself off after the second or third use and never came back on. Exchanged it for a new one that did the same thing. Exchanged THAT for a v-smile pocket hoping for better luck and THAT did the same thing after about 5 uses! It also would not release the cartridges! Wrote to v-tech and was continually insulted and patronized by their associates, never been so upset with any company in my life! I have done research into this and found many other parents say the same! Look this up, you will find it! V-tech told me to keep the games and the unit cleaner, now I ask how dirty it could be after a couple of uses? Complete waste of a lot of Grandma’s money and three heartbroken kids! I do not recommend!

Good fun with education in mind. Not the best but good for the choices that are out there.
Graphics aren’t very good. I have a three year old that has fun and a 8 and 10 year old that will play it as well.
