How can I explain to a teenager that you don’t cry at work without hurting her feelings / causing her to cry?

She made a mistake and someone yelled at her, she burst into tears. People at work are avoiding her, her Manager has told everyone to let him handle it but he seems afraid to point out her errors because she’ll make a scene and make everyone uncomfortable. I think she’ll lose her job soon – its easier on the boss to fire her than explain and I want to tell her that if she screws up, she should own up, apologise, fix it if she can, make up for it if she can’t and learn from the mistake – not do the same thing again. I want her to know that she has to look at things from the other persons point of view if her mistakes are causing someone else more work and less money. I don’t think you should ever let people you work with see you cry over something like this, even if the other person is wrong for yelling at her. If she’s an emotional person, she should go to the bathroom and get it out of her system, wash her face and come back to work once she’s composed herself.

You have a big heart and she’s lucky to know you. I would try and speak to her away from work or speak to the supervisor yourself if you feel comfortable doing it. Perhaps she’s just not cut out for this job?
It happens, if it don’t work out don’t be hard on yourself.
At least you can take comfort in knowing someone knows you cared.
