My 2.5 year old has a wonderful time playing this in beginner mode. I also got excited watching her demonstrate how well she knew her numbers, letters, shapes and colours. The concept of the game has just the right amount of complexity to keep her (and me) interested, but is simple enough that she knows exactly how it works and it doesn’t require ongoing guidance or coaching every time. I like that it has a harder level – though I expect it will have to get put away for a while to make it interesting again once her interest wanes at the easy level.

We bought this game, hoping it would be more fun then the original Cariboo. We were wrong.

Pros:

It’s easier to get the coins out after you’re done playing in this version.

Cons:

If you touch the treasure chest, it opens. You don’t have to get a coin.

The “sandy beach” is lame. Unlike the original Cariboo, the balls don’t slide.

The Toy was marketed as “Spinning” but, it dosen’t spin on most hard surfaces.

The doors are EXACTLY the same as the Original version.

The way you put the coins in is through the hole in the back of the treasure chest. It’s kind of hard to do it.

The doors are placed in a circle. When my kids play with it, they have to keep on picking it up and rotating it for everyone to see if there is a ball inside.

You kind of have to lean your head to see if there is a coin inside.

Once you have all the coins, you have to push REALLY hard to open the chest. And, most of the time, once of the balls just falls out of the crack for the crab.(Yeah, there’s a crab, and you have to slide it to get the balls out. It’s actually the funnest part of this game.)

Cards are EXACTLY the Same. Only the design changes.

As you can see, there’s more pros than cons. So this game isn’t that great. Invest your money in the first Cariboo. It may be three dollars more, but it’s TOTALLY worth it.

My 3 year old grandson loves keys and this game was right up his alley. The coin treatures are brilliant colors and there are six, so we are practicing both counting and colors. The gate that flips the treasures back into the doors broke off the first time we played with it so this not a very sturdy feature. The key isn’t storable in the game and could be easily.

I just bought this game for my preschool class and it doesn’t work! I tried it out at home first and the treasure chest “trigger” does not function correctly, so that the treasure chest does not pop open when all the coins are found. Since that is supposed to be the big payoff of the game, then I have to rate this low on the scale. I will try to return the one I bought and get another to replace it. I hope it works better than the one I have now! It looks like it would be a lot of fun.

We bought this for our 3yr. old and what a great find! He loves the Cariboo games, and this one is no different. There are two sets of cards; one is a basic set where you match the colors, how many(numbers) and shapes. The other set of cards is for older children, where I am guessing has more complex finds. This is great, because he loves the game now and he can continue to grow into it for later. He doesn’t get too excited when the treasure opens like other comments have said, but he loves popping open the compartments with the key, finding the coins and placing them on top. We were playing one afternoon, and daddy even joined in. It’s a great game for the whole family, I would definitly recommend it.
