My 8 year old loves this. We put it under the tree for her and it was the highlight of her Christmas. She plays on it regularly, enjoying it thoroughly.

Heck, even the adults have had fun brushing up on their geography and anatomy with it. It’s a real winner.

The 2 complaints: (1) There need to be more books for kids in the 2nd-4th grade range; (2) remember that you’ll need to drop more money for new books to keep this product relevant for your childs age.

If your child is between 1st and 3rd grade, likes electronic toys, and can play alone, this is a great purchase. If your child is younger, consider one of the other LeapPads. If your child is older, consider the iQuest (see my review there).

I just got a Quantum Pad for Halloween and can’t go anywhere without it! The day I got it I went to my friend’s house and on the way over she, her little brother and I couldn’t put it down! Her brother is in 3rd grade and we are in 6th. I know that it is recommended for grades 3-5 but there are some things in the books that I don’t even know! I already finished reading The Wizard of Oz in 2 days with my system and in the sampler I love the presidents and Europe sections. This is a great buy for any child!

I bought the Quantum Pad rather than the LeapPad as the colors seem less childish. I usually don’t buy “fad” toys, but this was an great investment in my kids’ education. Everyone from the 14-year-old down to the 3-year-old love to play with this.

This can and does go anywhere, as opposed to our personal computer. We’ve taken this to piano practice, in the doctor’s waiting room, and on car trips. A pair of earphones is essential for quiet play – the sounds drive my husband up the wall! ….

I do admit my daughter is too young for this toy (she got it for her 3rd birthday)–that said, she absolutely LOVES it. She plays with it every single day. We have many different books for her to use with it (mostly LeapPad books since they also play in the Quantum Pad player though she LOVES the sampler book and the other two that came with the quantum pad player when we bought it.) She now knows more about the presidents and the map and flags of Europe than I do! She’s also the only 3yo I know who can tell you what many of the bones in her body are called. We buy the books when Toys R Us has a buy 2 get one free sale so we pay $10 a piece for the books instead of $15.

I like it better than the LeapPad player because of it’s smaller size–much less cumbersome for my 3 yo to handle.

My only complaint is that we’ve only had it for 3 months and already we need to send away for a replacement pen. (which is available for $…if the cord is damaged from the Leapfrog.com website, and is free if the cord is not damaged, you just have to send the cord back to the company with your request for a new one).

I have seen the Leap Pads around, but the Quantam Leap pad involves much more depth and will grow with my child (age 6). I bought it for him as a Christmas present from Santa. I really wanted to see what his reaction to the Quantam was so I took him into the local Toys R Us to spend a few minutes playing with it. He didn’t want to leave it. After 10 minutes, I had to pull him away from it. He is so excited to think that Santa might actually give it to him.
